15 Times Predators Target Monkeys and Baboons

As fast and agile as they are, monkeys and baboons are often hunted by predators. Big cats, snakes, and birds of prey are just a few of the predators that will hunt and feed on primates. If you want to see how they do it, sit tight, because we’re getting started.

Leopard Hunting Monkey

If I didn’t know better, I would think that the leopard in this video is more skilled at climbing trees than the monkey it’s chasing. It’s insane how these cats can maneuver by leaping from branch to branch when they chase birds or monkeys in trees. The last move the leopard makes to grab the monkey is mind-blowing. This leopard just hunted and killed money and can be seen carrying the dead monkey, but the tragedy here is not so much the adult monkey's death. It’s the fact that her small baby which can be seen clinging on to her dead body, is still alive. Has the leopard even noticed the baby monkey? Your guess is as good as mine. The leopard is a highly skilled cat, and the way it handles itself in this tree, while it chases a small monkey is mind-boggling. It almost makes you consider that the big cat is more skilled than the primate. The leopard has got to be, by far, the most skilled cat when hunting in trees. After capturing and killing a monkey, a leopard can be seen walking towards a tree, and climbing it just like Spiderman would climb a wall, except this is not a movie.

Eagle Preying On Monkey

After driving by a troop of baboons, wildlife enthusiasts saw a tawny eagle with a baby baboon killed, perched on a tree. This was most probably a fresh kill that happened just before onlookers got there. This beautiful, crowned Eagle had just killed a Samango monkey. The Eagle was attempting to transfer his kill, but the video shows how heavy it is. As cars began to pile up, the eagle became agitated and flew into a nearby tree, leaving his prey on the side of the road. When the harpy clobbers one of the tiny monkeys despite their warning call, you can see it go for the kill. The harpy, however, was not hunting for himself because he has a nest in a dead Brazil nut tree. His partner and chick are eagerly awaiting his return. Harpies are the most formidable eagles, feasting on monkeys and tree sloths despite their small size. Once the male has delivered his kill, his work is done. Only the mother feeds the two-month-old chick, even though both parents bring food to the nest. Everything save the bones is eaten, including the skin. Nothing goes to waste here.
