As far as performance goes, the Peugeot Sport Engineered version of the already very cool 508 sedan, delivers the best of the best. Seemingly effortless acceleration, loads and loads of grip in corners and probably the most stable handling in this segment.

With a chassis and suspension setup that offers nothing but thrills when you’re using all of its 360 hybrid horsepower and 520 Newtonmeters of torque. Zero to 100 kmh happens in a little over 5 seconds (5.2) and its top speed is (predictably) limited at 250 km/h.

It offers you all of the comfort and a relaxed driving style just like the standard 508 with a choice of different driving modes. You even get a plethora of massaging styles to make you feel at ease in this French ‘berline’ as Peugeot likes to call it. An array of visible and less visible safety systems got your back when things start to go wrong or even prevent that from happening in the first place.

But let’s not forget that this car has serious intentions. It is a cruise-missile waiting for its target. Just point-and-shoot at the next corner and the car just flies. With an intricate collaboration between a 200 hp strong 1.6 liter THP turbo petrol engine, 2 electric motors that can deliver another 100+ hp each, an intelligent four-wheel-drive system and an 8-speed e-EAT8 automatic gearbox make sure that this car is not only fast, but that it can corner with an almost frightening momentum.

A lot of technology means that we’re dealing with a sophisticated and complex piece of technology here and that means that in some cases we experienced some minor technical difficulties and the car (in some occasions) didn’t quite perform as it should have.
Maybe it’s due to the fact that Peugeot is still fairly new to the genre of the very powerful hybrid and street-legal (i.e. not meant for the race track) sportscar class or perhaps it’s just incidental. But it proves once more that these cars are performing at their absolute limit.

The above didn’t change the fact that we were absolutely blown away by its capabilities and sometimes needed to remind ourselves that we were not sitting in a high-end, several 100 000 euros costing German product. Because that is what came to my mind at first, this car feels and breathes: sportscar!
