Great looking Vintage AKAI GX-255 GX Focused Field Reel to Reel made between 1979-1980. This is an Auto Reversing Tape deck that records forward only per design.See Video.
I make these videos at the backside of the tape to show how the Auto Reverse Feature works during Recording and Playback.
This is 2 Channel, 4 Track Deck. 4 Heads, 3 Motors and the Capstan motor is Direct Drive. Takes Reel sizes up to 7 Inches. Two Speed deck, 3 3/4 and 7 1/2 ips. This is a 120 V Deck so International buyers please note this and shipping is OK as long as you country is in the Global Shipping Program.

Rewind, Fast Forward, Play, Record, Pause, Auto Reverse, Counter All working Nicely and Pinch Roller and all 4 heads are in Excellent Shape.

This deck uses the Twist Reel Locks so No rubber reel holders to keep track of. The meter needles, lamps and tape counter are all a nice shade of green very similar to the GX-266II. The transport buttons, both Play button, Rew, FF, Pause, Rec all light up when pressed, Proud Looking Deck and will Enhance Any Living room for the Audio Enthusiast.
I did an Extensive Electrolytic Re-cap on the Playback/Record Pre-Amplifier board and used Elna Silmic II Low ESR capacitors. I also replaced the infamous 2SC458 transistors with a modern Low Noise transistors as well as all the 2SC945 transistors. The upgraded transistors also have a lower noise floor.
