Science's Brightest: Sophie Scott. Interviews with the best scientists in the world
Sophie Scott is Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience and the Director of the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience at University College London. Her research focuses on the neurobiology of speech perception, including the functional sub systems in human auditory cortex, the evolution of speech, the difference between intelligibility and comprehension, and profiles of recovery in aphasia.
Sophie Scott is interested in the neural basis of vocal communication - how our brains process the information in speech and voices, and how our brains control the production of our voice. Within this, she is interested in the roles of streams of processing in auditory cortex, hemispheric asymmetries, and the interaction of speech processing with attentional and working memory factors. Sophie Scott is also interested in the expression of emotion in the voice. Finally, she is interested in individual differences in speech perception, and plasticity in speech perception, since these are important factors for people with cochlear implants.
We abduct only the rockstars of science, the brilliant, the science’s brightest. Who are they? How do they think? What makes them tick and what pisses them off? Do they even know what a hobby is, and if yes, what do these amazing brains do to relax? Is there anything in this material world these people appreciate? What books do they read and what advice can they spare? Science and Cocktails will make sure you know everything about your science superstars, their life at work and beyond in the series of interviews called "Science's Brightest".
