There was a time when Joe Walsh flirted with disaster so many times, and wound up smelling like a rose, he was convinced he was invincible. He could just keep the party going as long as he wanted to, and had the power to stop any time he wanted to.
In ’77 he decided to put it all on paper and write a satirical song about his shenanigans & the spoils of fame.

Joe’s titled his autobiography “Life’s Been Good.” In “Life’s Been Good”, Joe let us into the private life of a flippant rock star.
Sure he liked having nice things, but he was really only in it for a good time. Joe told us about a mansion that he had, but he forgot the price. He was singing about the mansion he bought in Santa Barbara, California, just after he joined the Eagles in ’76.

Because of two solid years of touring and recording all over the country since he bought the palace…Joe was never there: He didn’t have a Maserati when he wrote the song, as he claimed in the lyrics, but following the success of “Life’s Been Good,” Walsh bought one so he wouldn’t disappoint his fans.

Although... he never pushed the speed to “185" as the song goes… Joe said he chickened out at 145 miles per hour. Joe once lost his wallet, and his driver’ license was inside the wallet.
He often rode in limos, and indulged in the back. Joe had an office with gold records on the wall, and an old school answering machine that was constantly full of unreturned messages.

Everyone that ever went to a party with Joe Walsh knew that they were in for a long night, and along those lines, there was another humorous bit of non-fiction in the lyric- “ I go to parties sometimes until 4, it’s hard to leave when you can’t find the door: At one soiree, Walsh attempted to leave at a respectable hour, but was so obliterated, he entered a walk-in closet mistaking it for the front door to exit the party. Another true Joe Walsh confession is found in verse 1, where Joe states, matter of factly.
