Easter Terce

Terce (homonymous with "terse") is sung each day at 7:30 A.M. We repeat the same three psalms every day, except Sunday. They are psalms 119, 120 and 121 (or 120, 121 and 122 if you are using the numbering in most bibles). The name "Terce" derives from the Latin word for "third," which refers to the third hour of the day. The Roman day, on average, began around 6:00 A.M., so legally Terce would be done at 9:00 A.M. We do it earlier at Gethsemani to better fit our work schedule. The other two daytime "little hours" are also named after their times, so "Sext" is done at the 6th hour, or 12:00 noon, and "None" at the ninth hour, or 3:00 P.M. As with Terce we move the time for None to 2:15 P.M. to better fit the schedule.
