BMW i8 Review - A Hybrid Supercar? Should You Buy One?
In this video I review a 2015 BMW i8. While it's a great hybrid sports car, I'm not sure I'd call it a "supercar". Would I buy one? Absolutely! Check out my POV test drive.
What I liked:
-Looks amazing! The aerodynamic shape is unlike anything else on the road
-0-60 in 4.4 seconds makes it a solid performer
-Secure handling and great grip despite having only 215 (front) and 245 (rear) width tires
-Smooth, stable and quiet on the highway. A great road trip car!
-Seats and interior are very comfortable
-Excellent fuel economy, returning well into the 30 mpg range
-The doors: Dihedral, scissor or butterfly doors - call them what you will - are super cool
-Progressive brakes that feel good and stop well
-Exhaust sound might be "enhanced" and assisted by microphones and speakers, but it sounds great
-Easy to charge the battery to full in 3 hours with the basic 110V home charger
-Cost to buy: Depreciation is your friend! You can pick these up in the $50,000 to $60,000 range now, quite a bargain!
What I didn't like:
-Not that fast; definitely does not feel like 357 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. Though it's certainly not slow
-Gas engine often comes on abruptly during acceleration
-Doors may look cool, but they make getting in and out a challenge, ditto for the low and wide carbon fiber chassis
-18 miles of battery range goes quickly
