Old kitchen scale - Restoration 3

In today's episode we will show the renovation of the old Polish kitchen scales.
I was given the weight by Mr and Mrs Marco and Cornelia Rehm from Germany.
Thank you very much for that :)

Polish 2.kilogram scale made around 1900. The scale works on the principle of the Beranger system. It is the most common system used in kitchen two-scale table scales used since 1885. The body of the scale is characterized by beautiful ornaments and quality casting. Although this particular piece was not exactly cast.

Scales are devices respectively. apparatus designed to measure mass by gravity. They work on different physical principles. Weighing is one of the oldest and most widespread measurement procedures.

The isosceles scales operate on the principle of a two-arm lever (rocker arm) with equal length arms. At the end of the arms there are bowls, one on the weighing object and the other on the weight. In the middle of the lever is a vertical tongue that allows you to accurately read when both sides are in balance. The isosceles lever balance varies according to the range of weights they are designed for ("weighing"), sensitivity, accuracy and the like. We distinguish analytical, pharmaceutical, kitchen scales, etc.

Accuracy and sensitivity of the scales requires that the lever move as freely as possible without friction, so it is usually stored on blades, sometimes even agate and the like. Sensitive scales have a locking device that allows the lever to be lifted from the cutting edges and immobilized. More sophisticated weighing is done in a closed box to avoid the effects of air currents. The isosceles lever balance is simple and very responsive with a well-designed lever suspension; the disadvantage is the sensitivity to shocks and the need for a set of weights.

The isosceles scales belong to the oldest ones, and very precious stones for gems have been known since prehistoric times. The isosceles scales are also a symbol of justice and already in ancient Egyptian reliefs there is a motif of weighing souls after death, very widespread in the High Middle Ages in Europe. In neighboring pictures, Egyptian Anubis weighs the heart of the deceased, and Archangel Michael weighs the souls given by the other angel and defends them against the devils. (Wikipedia source)

action index:

00:01 Unpacking the scale
00:55 Put all the cast iron parts with the rest of the paint and dirt into the container and apply commercially available sodium hydroxide - lye, which is used for cleaning waste sinks.
01:10 Pour hot water. Care must be taken and the use of protective equipment as sodium hydroxide is corrosive!
01:25 After 24 hours in caustic wash weights in clean water.
01:50 It was necessary to give the same ,, ducks ,, I did not have the same, so at least I found others but the same :)
03:30 I brushed the parts with a wire brush.
03:40 I applied a rust remover to the brushed parts.
04:10 As soon as the rust remover is dry we clean it with a metal wool.
04:38 The broken brass arm had to be welded. I used a bronze electrode for welding. I sanded the welded shoulder and then polished it.
07:05 We can try to place new ducks on this prepared arm.
08:55 Application of the primer and then the top synthetic paint.
09:26 Important thing: cuddle with dog :)
10:20 I added new but tin bowls because I have no small brass. To better fit the bowl I used a spray that imitates the brass color.
11:10 Gold coloring follows
11:36 And we're going to build the weight.
13:11 The balance remains to be balanced.
13:40 Test
14:08 Comparison before and after renovation.
