1964 Gibson ES-345 TDC, Hide Away, Freddie King

One for blues legend Freddie King, born 3 September 1934. "It's one of the swingingest things I ever heard. It's called Hide Away. Could you do it for us tonight? Cool, man." Check out the live TV performance to go back to an era of day-glo colours, go-go dancers, and suited middle-aged TV presenters: www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEmGbMd2duk.

Just amazing how, In under 3 minutes, Freddie covers so many classic blues riffs, even slipping in the Peter Gunn theme towards the end. A wonderful player, and a towering influence on countless guitarists.

Played on a 1964 Gibson ES-345 TDC, which was the trademark guitar you used to see in Freddie's hands. Backing track played on the same guitar. Not the whole song, but enough for me! That break around the 1 minute mark still defies me, with a switch from pick to fingers and a rapid run down the fretboard. Freddie played only wth his fingers, so maybe that's the secret. But really, some people were born to be god-like guitarists, some to follow falteringly in their footsteps. Still, the 345 sounds the business, with some real quack to the neck pick-up. Hope you enjoy!
