'The instability of the free world continues': Alan Jones

Sky News host Alan Jones says the "the instability of the free world continues" as France faces the threat of "civil war".

"Now it is France and the Islamic threat," Mr Jones said.

"In an open letter this week, 20 retired generals and scores of ex-officers have called on the French President to stop the country from descending into chaos and civil war at the hands of radicals.

"This is a massive intervention. Foolishly, Macron has dismissed it but the open letter is gaining traction.

"People are angry over Macron's obsession with climate change where, on the recommendation of his climate commission, the parliament banned short domestic flights, further crippling the aviation industry and with it, the economy.

"And when the enemy, in this case, an ideological enemy, perceives economic weakness, they strike."

Mr Jones said there is no "substitute" for strong leadership and Donald Trump was one such leader who "stood up" to threatening ideologies.

"Trump was ahead of his time when it came to a political leader standing up to the rubbish we see today.

"There is no substitute for strong leadership and no substitute for the simple truth that if a country is economically weakened, its sovereignty is open to challenge.

"The world, collectively, must wake up to that."
