IS BMX A SPORT? **Asking for a friend***

Today was a Sunday Funday boys (and gals)! I decided to ride 10 miles down the Glendale/Burbank riverbed and it turned out to be an awesome time filled with ledge rides, wallrides, grind, and some steep transitions! But this all lead me to my point in question...is BMX A sport? Is it a hobby? What do you guys think? Shout out for Joe Rogan and Tony Hawk for sparking my interest in your opinion!
