SV Ramble On | Engine Room Insulation

Our engine is under the companionway steps and, as most engines are, it's noisy. Using a free decibel meter app we measured the engine noise at around 80 dB with the engine cover in place. There is some existing insulation which is probably from 1977. We hoped new insulation would cut down on the noise.

Audibly, it does sound a bit quieter or maybe just less rattling noise. But the numbers on the decibel meter were basically exactly the same post new insulation. A bit of a bummer, but it is heat reflective as well, so maybe it will keep the cabin cooler.
