Building An Alaskan Log Cabin - Week 7

It may seem odd to build the deck around the cabin before completing the roof framing but it is necessary. There will be a covered porch on the side of the cabin and the beam work supporting the porch rafters is supported by the deck below.

The rough-sawn porch boards are our native White Spruce. They will need to be sanded smooth..

Next week's video will cover the roof framing details, and preparing it for the installation of the metal roofing.

For one week each year I get to hear the frogs croaking. This is the week. I set the camera down by the water to record their "singing" for you.

Also, if you listen closely, you will hear some of my grandchildren playing nearby in the edge of the woods.
