The Carbide Lamp, Gary J
The Carbide Lamp was one of the first dependable portable light sources. It was invented around 1845 by the Justrite Co. It was really your first flashlight or lantern that didn't blow out like candles or oil lamps. With no batteries or bulb it ran off acetylene gas creating a flame. Miners, hunters, fisherman use them. Also bicycles, motorcycles, and cars use these as a light source.
