Samsung QD-OLED Explained + Why Samsung is Snubbing It for 2021 TV

We explain why Samsung's 2021 TV next year won't be using QD-OLED (quantum dot OLED) technology, even though Samsung is replacing its LCD production fab with QD-OLED manufacturing equipment.

The key to understanding the distinction is that there are two separate entities: Samsung Display (which manufacturers the QD-OLED panels), and Samsung Visual Display Business (otherwise known as Samsung VD) which makes the actual televisions you can buy.

We also illustrate the structure of Samsung Display's QD-OLED, and the rationale behind calling the technology "QD Display".
