What is Precision Medicine?

Precision medicine is a dynamic field which integrates the latest research advances with clinical treatment. Its aim is to treat the individual, not the “average” patient in many areas from cardiac disease to diabetes to cancer. Here Dr. Abigail Berman, Associate Director, Clinical, of the Penn Center for Precision Medicine explains how precision medicine drills down to understand as much as possible about the individual patient by using new diagnostic tools and techniques such as genomics, metabolomics, proteomics, pharmacogenomics, and microbiomics.
