Brexit: Prepare to trade on WTO terms says Government website!

In an interesting development, a government website aimed at businesses trading with Ireland from the first of January 2021, says the following:

“Guidance for UK businesses on rules for trading in services with Ireland from 1 January 2021.

“What UK businesses and professionals need to know
"From 1 January 2021, UK businesses will need to comply with both UK and Irish rules.

“Cross-border trade

"The EU and UK will trade on WTO terms from 1 January 2021. The default position in this case is that UK service providers will be required to comply with GATS rules on services provision.”

Now, this may be a mistake, but Duncan Buchanan, the Director of the Road Haulage Association, Tweeted out earlier today:

"Published by UK Govt last night that "The EU and UK will trade on WTO terms from 1 January 2021." Part of a page dealing with Ireland."

I've left a link to the government site in the descriptions box below.

Now, as I've already said, this could be a mistake, but as it's been there for several; hours now you do have to wonder.

It would also be a major breach of parliamentary rules if true. Because such momentous announcements are meant to be made in the House of Commons first, not on a government information website.

So, we might be on the verge of a big announcement, or else some web chap inside the government is going to get a rocket - this sort of thing has the potential to move markets.
