Hong Kong’s Last Squatter Cafe

Surrounded by modern high-rises, Ngau Chi Wan is one of the last shantytowns left in urban Hong Kong. But it could soon be demolished as the government plans to redevelop the area in the next decade.

Po Fook Cafe is one of the few remaining stores in Ngau Chi Wan, having served its residents cheap and hearty breakfasts for over 50 years. The owner, Chou Chiu-soon, is sad to see it go but also acknowledges the changes that have happened around his neighborhood.
