I BUZZED OFF ALL MY HAIR

WHY DID I BUZZ OFF MY HAIR?
i didn't do this to be trendy, fashionable, or for attention. i do however, think people who shave or buzz their hair for fashion are fierce and beautiful. i did it for the ten year old who started to gain weight and was told so, and for the first time in her life, she felt fat. i did this for every single time she put her arms length wise over her stomach while she sat down, so no one would see her fat roll poking out. i did this for every single time i looked at myself in the mirror and was unhappy with what i saw looking back at me. for every time i changed my clothes three times before leaving the house, for every time i "sized up" in fear that a fabric would cling to my sides and make me look heavier than i really was. for every time i checked my face in the camera of my phone to make sure my hair was in place, for every time i put makeup on just to run to the store so the people there wouldn't think i looked ugly, or tired, or sick. every tear that ran down my face was one more insecurity i was letting go of, for good.

DO YOU KNOW IT'S NOT EVEN ALL AROUND?
yes, i did notice that after the fact. i did this around 1am so i was tired, running on adrenaline and then tears, and doing it on myself with the artificial bathroom lights - so it will be touched up/fixed asap. it was also the first time i did anything like this, so i am still learning.

WHY WERE YOU HAPPY AT FIRST AND THEN SAD?
when i first started, i was SO ready to just get it done. i was jamming out to some good music and just letting that take over, that's why i looked so wired from the adrenaline that was pumping through me. then my dog, olivia, came in and i just.. lost it. something in me realized how huge this moment was and i just let my emotions go, letting go of all my insecurities and every time i second guessed myself. i know i will still be insecure for the first couple of times i go out in public, but i no longer have my hair as a shield to hide behind. this is the first step in becoming a new person.
