This color educational film is about how oil is drilled for and found. This was by the Shell Company. This is circa the late 1960s/early 1970s.

Men climb a tower. Opening titles: OIL, a Shell Film (:08-:21). Large ship on a river near a city. Cars whiz down a California freeway. A train goes over a bridge. An airliner flies. A luxury ship goes by. A boat on a river with south Pacific Islanders. A water wheel. A boy sleds in the snow and goes by an oilman. Close on machine parts. Closeup of oil droplets. Water falls onto a lake. Marine life and plants die and then sediment falls onto dead. It hardens and becomes rock. Rock cools and buckles. Remains of plants and creatures change by a chemical process into oil. An oil reservoir starts to form in porous rock (:22-2:47). Arabs walk the desert near camels and meet one another. A stretch of Arctic tundra. The rushing sea. An island. Men chip away at a rock and then look at the pieces. Men climb a rock formation on an island. Men dig at the ground. Men walk the desert. Trucks drive slowly in the desert. Echoes are recorded onto a machine, a seismic survey (2:48-4:08). A ship sails on the high seas. A seismic survey on the high seas and what it looks like. A rock profile. Geologists look over the survey. They study maps. Men near computers. Close on computers. South China Sea, off Borneo - an off shore floating oil drilling rig. It is positioned above where they believe oil to be based on the survey. The drilling rig has a tower with heavy lifting gear. Men work with it. Workers move around, position pipes. A pipe turns. Drillers control the pipes. A well is made and workers work with it (4:08-6:35). A pipe is pulled up out of the well and replaced, this is an arduous process. Drilling processes. Close on the tower. A worker rubs his head as he's sweating. The drilling bit is looked at. The new drilling bit is placed into the sea (6:36-8:13). Very hot and dry in Southeast Arabia. Misty and light drizzle of rain in the North Sea as the POV of a helicopter goes near a drilling rig. A new shift of workers comes to the North Sea rig. Arctic dawn. The drill goes down to its target and the rock brought up is studied by geologists. A few drops of oil are found. The rocks are sent for analysis. Helicopter flies. Oil rig at sea. On dry land, pipes and valves at a well. A production center for oil. A huge pipeline. Storage tanks of an oil port (8:14-9:49). Helicopter flies. An off shore drilling rig. A boat in the port. Divers on the sea floor. A ship on the sea. Close on the ship of an oil tanker. Oil tanker: Mysia, 1076 feet long, 154 feet wide, carrying crude oil that weighs 200,000 tons. Mysia comes into port. Crude oil is poured into a chemistry tube. Aerial shot of an oil refinery. The Oil mixture is gases, gasoline, kerosene, diesel oil, fuel oil, lubricating oil, and solids. Distillation is being done to separate. Oil refinery (9:50-12:10). Oil is heated at base. Vapor rises, cools as it rises, condenses back into liquid. Exterior of oil refinery tower. Train slowly goes by refinery. Cars drive on the highway. Cars drive in a city (12:11-13:12). A hand in powder. Refinery exterior. Chemicals. Men in a control room. A train slowly moves. A scientist does an experiment with tubes. Fingers hold things for experiments. A flame shoots. Power outputs. Smoke towers. Refinery port. Powder is placed into a bag. Plastics are carried. A plastic tiger mask is made. Doors are pulled open by workers and the front of a boat pops out. Synthetic paint. A man sprays paint onto a ceiling. An oil tanker. Synthetic rubber for tires. A man puts air in his car tire. The car drives away fast. A BOAC jumbo jet lands at an airport. The wheels touch down (14:49-17:44). Close on soil. A truck drives in the desert (17:44-18:02).
