The Jews Should Keep Quiet: Franklin D. Roosevelt, Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, and the Holocaust

Thane Rosenbaum moderates a 90-minute program featuring Holocaust scholar Rafael Medoff, whose new book, "The Jews Should Keep Quiet: Franklin D. Roosevelt, Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, and the Holocaust," chronicles the motivations supposedly underlying FDR's continued reluctance to help save European Jewry from the jaws of death of the Final Solution, as well as the complicated relationship he shared with Wise, the leading American Jewish figure of the era. The talk expounds upon these themes, with Medoff relating many of his shocking new findings contained in his book, including hints that FDR himself believed in the superiority of certain types of pure "blood," as well as damning evidence that suggests that Wise, under Roosevelt's powerful influence, did not, in fact, act in the best interests of Europe's Jews, but instead completely abrogated his responsibility. An event of the Jewish Publication Society of America, it was recorded at Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun in Manhattan with a brief introduction provided by Rabbi Haskel Lookstein.
