Payday at Coal Creek
Learned from Pete Steele of Hamilton Ohio, who recorded it for the Library of Congress in 1938. Pete learned it from a fellow miner in Kentucky who had brought it from Coal Creek Tennessee, following its closure after a disastrous explosion. Pete Seeger probably learned it from the 1938 recording.
