Hong Kong's unknown Islands

Hong Kong is one of the world's most densely populated regions; a pulsating, shimmering world of skyscrapers. Hong Kong's green islands are located off-shore of the main island.

Just half an hour away from the glitter of Hong Kong is Lamma Island: tranquillity, clean air and beautiful beaches attract weekend holidaymakers from the metropolis. But Lamma Island is also a refuge for wealthy "dropouts". Many "townies" have moved to the trafficfree island during the past few years. The original inhabitants of Yin Tim Tsai have left, but until now, no one has returned to the tiny island. Today, it is little more than a destination for day-trippers and Chinese wedding photographers like to incorporate the ramshackle idyll in their work. The most traditional of the islands is Cheung Chau. Here, the image of a rural China of fishermen and traders continues to exist.
The final stop of this journey through the South China Sea at Hong Kong is Lantau; the island that boasts the world's largest outdoor sitting Buddha statue.
