Painting a Still Life: A Demonstration

Last week we looked at color temperature. This week I do a still life painting of a squash from life. And again, the strong single light source creates a strong temperature shift. The video is cut to just show the paint mixing and just the initial block-in of each color.

Here are the colors on my palette: Titanium white, cadmium yellow lemon, cadmium yellow deep, yellow ochre, cadmium orange, cadmium red light, alizarin permanent dioxazine purple, ultramarine blue, phthalo blue, chrome oxide green, ivory black.

Panel was 10" x 12".

Hope you find this helpful and that your next week is full of joy and creativity!
