Tracking the Hurricanes: 2016 Part One
Finally, after eight years, a new chapter in the "Tracking the Hurricanes" series! The follow-up to 2004, 2005 and 2008 takes us on a journey back in time to see how far we've come from 2009-2015.
Hurricanes such as Irene, Isaac, Sandy, Arthur and Gonzalo are all part of this segment that shows follows our progress as we develop new technologies, including the weather balloon project: HURRB.
As the years progressed, we moved away from using bulky laptops and big batteries to power our unmanned camera system. Yet, at the same time, hurricanes were few and far between in the Atlantic Basin (at least those making landfall along the U.S. coast). Our testing had to be done during fierce winter storms and flood events which afforded us the opportunity to develop what would become an amazing new way to study hurricanes up close and personal.
It all leads up to the end of the 2015 season and a series of successful tests of HURRB and our new, smaller, better unmanned cameras. The result is that we were prepared for what would come in 2016 which is covered in part two.
As always, thanks for watching and taking an interest in our work. Enjoy and don't forget to subscribe to this channel for future video posts!
