The Tragic Division of Korea: From Unity to Enemies #geographyfacts

Script:
This isn’t just history—it’s a wound that still hasn’t healed.

The story begins in 1945, when Japan lost in World War II. Korea, which had been under Japanese occupation for years, was finally free.
But that freedom didn’t bring joy—it marked the beginning of a new sorrow.

The United States and the Soviet Union divided Korea into two parts—Soviet influence in the north, American in the south.
And between them, a border was drawn… one that turned brothers into enemies and split generations apart.

Was this division supposed to be temporary? Maybe.
But in 1948, North Korea and South Korea became two separate states—each claiming the entire peninsula as their own.

Then in 1950, North Korea suddenly invaded South Korea, and so began the Korean War.
South Korea called for help from the United Nations—and it was granted.

As soon as UN and American forces arrived, they quickly pushed North Korean troops back.

But then China stepped in, sending 250,000 soldiers to support North Korea.

As a result, the southern forces were pushed back to the 38th Parallel—the same border as before the war.

In 1953, an armistice was signed.

But a peace treaty? That never happened.

To this day, both nations remain technically at war.
