Could This "Invisible" Shield Save Your Life?

Time to test a polycarbonate "riot" shield... for real. Not pulling any punches (or rather, swings). It's fairly cheap, so I wanted to know how reliable it would be in a self-defense / SHTF situation (or even a post-apocalyptic scenario).
