In the 1130s, the Cistercians undertook a radical reform of the Chant to integrate it into the natural framework of acoustic resonances that generate harmonies, consequence, not of a human will, but of the fundamental laws by which the sounding bodies vibrate. Physical harmonies, the momentum of matter which by the absolute logic of its laws makes accessible to the human understanding the durability and the magnificence of the divine thought.
