About the chant:
Here is the Latin Antiphon "Asperges me, Dómine, hyssópo" sung every Sunday of the year (except in the Paschal Season), when the Priest sprinkles Holy Water on the faithful to remind them of the inner and outer Purity with which they must participate in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass This Gregorian Antiphon in its thirteenth century version accompanies the Rite of Blessing and Sprinkling of Holy Water every Sunday of the year, except in Eastertide, when it is replaced by "Vidi Aquam. The sprinkling is done only on Sundays, in cathedral, collegiate and parish churches, and only at the Main Mass. This sprinkling is a penitential rite but also a reminder of our Baptism: it signifies the purity, both interior and exterior, with which we must participate in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Water is a sign of purification of the soul.
