La Palma volcano hurls "lava bomb" as no end in sight for eruption

Video captured the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma ejecting a lava bomb, with the molten rock speeding down the hillside after it was hurled out of the crater on Wednesday.

A lava bomb is formed when a volcano spews large fragments during an eruption. The lava cools into solid pieces before they reach the ground. Lava bombs or volcanic bombs are classified as having a diameter of more than 64 mm.

Meanwhile, the volcano's lava continued to advance through the Spanish island on Friday, forming large walls of hard, black rock.

More than a month has passed since its initial eruption, and the volcano has destroyed more than 2,000 buildings, according to official estimates.
