Promoting Traditions: Reviving Manipur’s Mukna Kangjei | Imphal Free Press

Mukna Kangjei, a form of traditional game of the Meitei community in Manipur, was held on April 1 at Moirang Chengei Lampak, Manipur with the aim to promote and preserve indigenous games of Manipur. Mukna Kangjei exhibition match was held on April 1, 2023 at Moirang Chengei Lampak, Moirang, Bishnupur district, Manipur. The game was held to promote and preserve the indigenous game. The indigenous game was held with players wearing traditional gears and armed with kangjei (mukna sticks). Efforts must be made towards development of proper infrastructure for the revival and conservation of Mukna Kangjei and other indigenous games to help check drug menace among the youths, and to promote communal harmony and reduce conflicts among the diverse communities in the state.
