Eating Disorders Portrayed in Film: Extended Cut

This video is an extra compilation of scenes that I didn't use in the first video. I did not include Skins (UK) or To The Bone due to Netflix's strict copyright policies.

DISCLAIMER: I am aware that Anorexia and Bulimia are not the only two eating disorders and that someone doesn't have to be skinny to have an eating disorder, however, unfortunately, ED movies without these stereotypes are hard to find. If you know any movies or shows that you would like to recommend for my next video on this topic, please share in the comments.

*A LOT of people have been asking me where they can watch My Skinny Sister. There are many websites to buy or rent it from if you live in Europe. If you live in Australia, as of the making of this video, you can actually watch it for FREE (with ads) on SBS on Demand. Unfortunately, if you live in the US, it's extremely difficult to get a copy. The only practical way to watch it is either through pirating it or using a VPN.

Analysis:
Feed: Troian Bellisario plays a very stereotypical take of an anorexic. She does all of the stuff that's seen in every other movie such as hiding food, lying, losing weight, checking herself in the mirror, and going to treatment. One thing I will note, though, is that the scenes with the therapist seem realistic. I could definitely see those being real conversations. As far as Tom Felton's character goes, I've never heard of anyone who has actually hallucinated a physical embodiment of an eating disorder before, but I think his character actually works well in this film. Although something like him would be unrealistic in real life, I feel like it's good for the film. Basically, everything he says and does is what many people with eating disorders really say and think about inside their heads, and the way that the two main characters play off each other is clever and interesting.

My Skinny Sister: This is one of the most realistic- if not the most realistic- movies about eating disorders out there. It's extremely heartbreaking and difficult to watch. In the first video, the clips that I used focused a lot on Katja and her struggle, but the clips I used in this video revolved more around her family as a whole- especially the little sister, Stella. Every single character's actions and words are extremely accurate and realistic. There are even tiny things that Katja does that a normal viewer (who isn't as familiar with EDs) wouldn't ever notice. For example, when Katja tells Stella to tell their parents that she ate at her friend's house, this is implying that she most likely is lying, and in fact, didn't eat at all. Another example is when Katja makes Stella breakfast. Not only is this a way of trying to appease Stella so she's not as likely to tell their parents about what happened the night before, but it's also showing a common thing that Anorexics do which is cook meals for their family without eating anything themselves. These details show that people behind this film knew exactly what they were doing when they made it.
Some other things that Katja does that are common in individuals with eating disorders are exercise excessively, plan meals and freak out when they have to eat something different, lie, avoid foods that they once loved to eat, binge lots of food in the middle of the night, act extremely aggressive and offensive when their bad habits are exposed or questioned, always be in a bad mood, get upset for seemingly no reason, read magazines related to weight and health, try to skip meals, worry excessively about what's in their food, check their body in the mirror often, become extremely self-conscious about their appearance, and become terrified of consuming even the smallest amounts of food.
This movie really shows how an eating disorder can not only destroy the victim's life but also their family's.
