The 4 INDIANS in SPACE | 🇮🇳 Indian Astronauts |

️⃣ Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma - The trailblazer. Born in Patiala, Punjab, Sharma made history in 1984 when he flew aboard the Soviet spacecraft Soyuz T-11, becoming the first Indian citizen to travel to space. His iconic words, “Saare Jahan Se Achha,” spoken during a live video call with Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, still resonate with pride and patriotism.

️⃣ Kalpana Chawla - A beacon of inspiration. Born in Karnal, Haryana, Chawla was the first woman of Indian origin to venture into space. She flew twice, first in 1997 aboard STS-87 and again in 2003 on STS-107. Her second mission ended in tragedy when the Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrated during re-entry, but her legacy continues to inspire millions worldwide.

️⃣ Sirisha Bandla - The scientist astronaut. Hailing from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, Bandla flew into space in 2021 as a commercial astronaut with Virgin Galactic. During her mission, she conducted a crucial experiment related to plant biology, marking a significant step for women in STEM and space exploration.

️⃣ Gopichand Thotakura - The pioneer of space tourism. From Vijayawada, Thotakura became India’s first civilian space tourist in 2024. He flew with Blue Origin on their New Shepard-25 mission, representing a new era of space exploration where ordinary citizens can reach extraordinary heights. The cost of such a journey? A staggering ₹4 crore (approx. $750,000 - $1 million), but for those with a dream, the sky is no longer the limit!
