The best place to start is with a clear distinction between NordVPN and NordVPN ad blocker. NordVPN is an original app, which does have an ad-blocker feature called Threat Protection.

So… They decided to make it possible to get Threat Protection separately. When I’m done with configurations, I can just go ahead and browse… But that’s for desktop PCs. Mobile users also have to download the NordVPN app from either Google Play or the Apple App Store.

But to be completely objective, it’s important to answer this question: is NordVPN ad blocker good? I decided to run a very simple test. A couple of websites full of pop-ups, ads, and notifications, plus a specialized website to test ad blockers - can they beat NordVPN adblock? I will access each website with and without NordVPN ad blocker, and let you see for yourself.

The desktop app comes first, and NYTimes cracked pretty quickly - no notifications on website launch, no cookie pop-ups, no ads - NordVPN ad blocker is doing great. Same with weather.com - the usual pop-ups and ads are missing.

Even the dedicated canyoublockit.com didn’t last long - Threat Protection manages to filter out all the annoyances marketing specialists come up with. On mobiles, the situation is totally the same - I’ve encountered no notifications, ads, or pop-ups as soon as I’ve enabled NordVPN. Threat Protection passes this test and there’s no longer any need to ask: can NordVPN ad blocker block ads or not?
