Luke’s 1st Day Shooting His Own Rifle!

I bought my son a Savage Rascal .22 for his 8th birthday. We live in a rural area with a dense swamp behind us and an oak log for a backstop. We started out with .22 CB short cartridges to ensure safety. This is his very first firearm. He has shot a Daisy Red Rider BB gun a few times, but he has been begging me to teach him to hunt, so we are stepping up in power. After this lesson he successfully fired my bolt action .300 BLK accurately!

DO NOT ATTEMPT WITHOUT PROPER TRAINING AND A PROPER FACILITY.
In our case, all safety protocols have been followed. The ammunition (.22 CB Short) is quiet enough for operation without hearing protection. The velocity and penetration characteristics of the cartridge are adequately accounted for by a large solid oak log backstop. Luke has been instructed to know his target and what is beyond it. Beyond the solid oak backstop is a wooden fence. Beyond the wooden fence is 1/3 mile of very dense and uninhabited forest. EVERY bullet was safely caught within the first inch of the oak log.
