Vladimir Putin is a symbol of Russian power and pride, but he’s also reigned over a corrupt state. In February, opposition leader Alexei Navalny’s death at an Arctic penal colony galvanized much of the Western world.

A joint 2015 investigation with PBS’s Frontline reveals details about the Russian president’s past, including allegations of criminal activity dating back to his early days as a top official in St. Petersburg and ties to organized crime.
