A Moment of Reflection on a Life of Service Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 1926-2022
One of the defining features of the life of Queen Elizabeth II has been service to others. As Princess Elizabeth, she made the promise to the people of the Commonwealth on her 21st Birthday that her whole life, whether it be long or short, would be devoted to their service. Queen Elizabeth’s life was one well-lived, one spent in tireless dedication to her role as Queen, in all its dimensions. Her example inspired so many people – her quiet, constant leadership and her ability to connect with all those she encountered.
Throughout her reign, Queen Elizabeth took great interest in the Commonwealth and its young people. The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust was established in 2018 in recognition of this and her lifelong belief in the youth of the Commonwealth to be a force for good.
QCT has a network of young people, nearly 1,000 strong, working across the 56 countries of the Commonwealth. All of them are supporting others in one way or another – as community leaders, social entrepreneurs or working in public service roles. Many are Queen’s Young Leader (QYLs), the young people recognised by The Queen for their work, with the support of The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust.
In this video, QCT young leaders share their reflections and how Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth's support and belief in them has shaped their service to community.
