The Canon NEW FD 200mm f4 is an amazing vintage lens …..and no one cares about it !

This lens is overlooked for its faster sibling: the FD 200 f2.8
Faster but also bigger and way heavier, because the 2.8 version makes everyone crazy, the F4 sells for next to nothing.

I found mine for 5$ at a yard sale.

Release date: 1979

The lens design was Completely reworked from the old FD lens, this new lens was the smallest and lightest FD 200 mm lens ever made.[7] It has a rear-focusing design that does not extend or retract during focusing.

The lens is lighter and smaller than any other 200mm I tested.

the Closest focusing distance is 1.5 meters and that's a lot closer compared to other lenses.

So I took it with my on a trip to the mountains ( Pyréneés) because it was the most portable 200mm in my collection.
this is an excellent lens, especially for the cheap price but it’s also a piece of history.
You need to look for it if you are after a great portable 200mm lens and don't want to pay too much.
