Wordmark Logo Masterclass - Part 8 - Add a Tagline

Wordmark logos can be the most powerful choice for a brand—combining the meaning of the name with the tone and personality crafted in the letterforms. In this class I show you, step-by-step, how to design a professional wordmark that feels unique, premium and unmistakably “yours.” We’ll start with a strong brief, shortlist typefaces that fit the positioning, then customise and refine the characters in Adobe Illustrator CC.

You’ll learn how to set hierarchy and tone, when to bend or break type rules, and how to apply optical corrections so every curve, counter and join feels intentional. We’ll cover spacing, rhythm and balance, test legibility at tiny sizes, and place the mark on real touchpoints (web, packaging, social) to ensure it scales.

You don’t need to reinvent every character—sometimes one tasteful ligature, a refined terminal or smarter letter interaction is enough to create distinctiveness without sacrificing clarity.
