Twin to twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS ) - (part 1) pathogenesis

TTTS affect 10-15% of MC twins . The donor is small with oligohydramnios while the recepient is large with polyhydramnios .Diagnostic criteria are the presence of monochorionic diamniotic pregnancy with oligohydramnios polyhydramnios sequence .Quintero staging is used for identifying the severity of TTTS . Before 26 weeks gestation , fetoscopic laser ablation is the prefered treatment . other options include amnireduction , septostomy . in certain conditions selective reduction or termination of pregnancy may be a reasonable option .
