Treatment Options: Twin-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS) (5 of 9)

A fetal surgery called fetoscopic laser coagulation is an option for fetal treatment of twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). http://fetalsurgery.chop.edu/ttts

Experts from the Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia explain the prenatal treatment options available for twin-twin transfusion pregnancies. Fetal intervention options include: limited use of amnioreduction to remove excessive amount of amniotic fluid, and fetoscopic laser coagulation (also called fetoscopic selective laser ablation, selective laser photocoagulation, or SLPC). This minimally invasive surgery disconnects the communicating blood vessels on the placenta to stop the sharing of blood from donor to recipient. The goal of laser surgery is to stop the progression of TTTS. They also discuss the risks and benefits of fetoscopic laser coagulation.
