The Longest Cave: The Flint Ridge / Mammoth Cave Connection, 1972

My fifteen seconds of fame, portraying John Wilcox at the moment of connection between the Flint Ridge and Mammoth Cave systems on September 9, 1972. The video of me in my wetsuit was shot by Richard Zopf (the bearded interviewee) in 1992. We went to the connection area first, but it was flooded, so we shot this in Eyeless Fish Trail instead, just off of Pohl Avenue in Flint Ridge. This discovery made Mammoth Cave the longest known cave in the world, at just over 144 miles. Today (2011) the cave is 400 miles long by survey, with no end in sight. Narration by Richard "We've spared no expense" Kiley. With Patricia Wilcox and John Wilcox (interview footage.)
