The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development announced today a new update for federal pandemic unemployment benefits.

“According to the department, anybody receiving the PUA or PEUC claimants with a remaining benefit balance, or who have exhausted their benefit, but certified for the week ending Dec. 26, can certify again starting Sunday, Jan. 3, for the week ending Jan. 2.”

The state says if you were unable to certify to not try and refile.

“The state said they will provide further instructions on when to refile your claim after receiving guidance for the Extended CARES Act.”

States are still waiting from the federal government for more guidance as to when they can disperse the $300 checks so expect some delays.

People relying on unemployment benefits have been told by the California Employment Development Department that their accounts have been frozen.

At the beginning of the year, an email was sent to some recipients saying their claim may be tied to fraudulent activity.

State leaders, including Senator Scott, say their offices have been fielding lots of complaints about the EDD account suspensions.

stated, “People have had to deal with way too much in terms of accessing the benefits, we have this huge backlog in terms of getting people approved… and now we have this.”

Eligible New Yorkers will start receiving extended and expanded federal unemployment benefits starting this week of Sunday, Jan. 3rd.

On Tuesday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced, “that the New York Department of Labor is prepared to begin issuing payments as soon as legally permissible under federal law.”

Three federal unemployment programs have been extended: Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, Pandemic Emergency Compensation, and Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation.

New Yorkers currently receiving benefits need not reapply and will automatically receive their extended benefits so long as they continue to certify for their unemployment on the state website.

Workers in some states, including New York, Minnesota, and Rhode Island, could start seeing the latest $300 weekly unemployment boost hit their accounts starting next week.

According to CNBC, “While some states expect to get new boosted payments out after this weekend, it could take others several weeks to reintroduce new payments to record-level numbers of claimants.”

Check out your state’s PUA or UI website, show them your identification and employment history, and let them know that you’ve been out of work due to that thing out there,
