With millions of Americans finally receiving their $600 stimulus checks over the past few days, scammers and fraudsters are once again trying to steal these vital disaster relief funds.

According to the Better Business Bureau (BBB): “scammers were contacting people through text messages, e-mail and robocalls about the new stimulus checks and direct deposits.”

The BBB warns: “you should never click on unsolicited links, and if you get a call from someone claiming to be the IRS, do not give out your personal information.”

They continued: “you can always call the IRS directly to see if someone is, in fact, looking for you.”

Hopefully this information can help you or someone you know avoid getting your identity and brand new $600 stimulus check stolen by scammers.

Meanwhile, Shark Tank guru Mr. Wonderful, aka Kevin O’Leary, made some interesting comments recently in regards to how Americans should spend their $600 stimulus checks.

O’Leary believes that if you are in a position to do so, that you should consider “paying down credit card debt with all of it.”

Due to high interest rates and compounding interest, credit card debt can be extremely difficult to pay off, with Ellevest CEO Sallie Krawcheck stating: “If you have debt with interest rates of 10% or more, we recommend not saving [the stimulus check]. Instead, use it to pay off that debt.”

This sounds like solid financial advice to me, as delaying credit card debt will only make the amount owed larger in the end.

Finally, Robert Reich, economist and Secretary of Labor under Bill Clinton, explained how millions of Americans could receive 8 months of stimulus checks for over $1,800 every month.

Reich explained: “For the same cost as the tax cuts that Trump passed in 2017, the U.S. could afford to give every working adult $1,875 stimulus checks for eight months.”

He continued: “For most Americans, the proposed tax cuts are tiny and temporary. Meanwhile, the top 1 percent will get a gigantic tax cut.”

With the Trump tax cuts due to cost $2.3 trillion over the next 10 years, I sure hope that Reich’s proposal can gain some steam, as these monthly stimulus checks would help millions of struggling Americans with some much needed financial stability instead of the rich getting richer.
