2021 Suzuki V Strom 650 vs 2021 Yamaha Tenere 700

As usual, the 2021 Suzuki line-up includes a couple of adventure-focused variants of the already impressive V-Strom 650 model. These variants include the V-Strom 650 XT and XT Adventure models: two Japanese motorcycles that have been designed to offer rocksteady reliability and unintimidating performance for day-to-day rides to full-on adventures.
Like many other Suzuki motorcycles in the 2021 range, these uprated V-Stroms draw power from Suzuki’s tried and tested 645 cc DOHC V-twin engine, with 70 horsepower and 46 lb-ft of peak torque. In terms of performance, they’re both identical to the base-model V-Strom 650. They also feature the same riding aids and electronics, including traction control, ABS, easy start, and a low-RPM assist function.

The Tenere 700 is designed from the ground up to be much more of a pure adventure-rally bike than it’s bigger brother, the Super Tenere ES, which is an adventure-tourer. This 2021 model strips away excesses and goes on a diet by shedding pretty much all it can and still be considered street legal. It has no multimode traction control, no panniers, no electronically adjustable suspension, and the only true concession to modern necessity on the bike, dual-zone ABS, has a disable switch that truly and completely turns off the ABS for off-road fun.
What’s left is an adventure bike that, as even Yamaha puts it, a “lightweight, no-compromise adventure motorcycle.”
