FREESTYLE ERRORS | Fixing the Outsweep -- تصليح أخطاء السباحة الحرة
Today, we want discuss a common error that is most common with kids and specially girls which is the outsweep of the hand specially while taking the side breath.
WHAT IS THE OUTSWEEP❓
The outsweep is when your leading arm sweeps outside your body and sometimes drops hugely below the surface.
This is not a favorable position as it puts strain on the shoulder It also causes drag resulting from dropping the hand and decreases the effectiveness of the pull.
The outsweep is a result of a weak core, shoulder muscles and a high side breath.
Fixing the outsweep is a multi-step process as many factors come into play.
HOW TO FIX IT❓
Our first step is to create awareness by talking to the athlete about what we want achieve and the benefits of fixing this technique flaw.
Secondly, I used the dumbbell with instructions to keep the dumbbell and leading add just under the surface.
After several reps with the 0.5kg dumbbell, we have some progress.
We them remove the fins and add a stroke to see the effect of the side breath.
We do several laps and then use the 1kg dumbbell and try again with fins and then adding strokes.
The result is a very good improvement, but still lots of practice with focused effort is needed to fix it for good!
