How should communists look at the Iran war?

The war in Iran is a war between capitalists. Workers in Iran, Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, and the region have no side to back. No support for the theocratic bourgeois regime in Tehran. No support for the bourgeois governments of Israel or the United States.

Communists should also expose the lie that this war is “for the Iranian people”. They should similarly oppose the idea that the Islamic Republic’s struggle against the US is “progressive”. The war is over the markets, routes, resources, and regions that the capitalists want, and they are fighting over them. The open destruction of civilian targets and the abandonment of even bourgeois law show how deep the capitalist crisis is.

This war is a link in a chain of recent wars between imperialists. The intervals between wars are becoming shorter. Militarisation, fascisation, and exploitation are becoming more common everywhere.

This is why the task is not tailing one side against the other. We must build a real communist movement, exposing social-chauvinists and centrists, and uniting workers against all imperialists. Under imperialism war is inevitable, only communism can secure lasting peace.
