What happens when a professional composer falls in love with the Northern Lights?

Ēriks Ešenvalds tells his story of being astonished by the magic of this optical phenomenon and what has it inspired him for — during the research along the Aurora Belt.

Ēriks Ešenvalds is a composer, member of The Latvian Composers Union.

Ēriks is a multiple winner of The Grand Music Award, the supreme Latvian state award in music, he was named The Year’s New-Composer Discovery by Philadelphia Inquirer in 2010 and was a nominee for the British Composer Awards in the same year.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
