Many of the uplands are managed habitats. This means that the number of predator species are controlled and purposefully kept low to protect other species in the food chain more favourable for humans (eg grouse). Over the years there has been growing contention and pressure to ban these practices, in favour of allowing these ecosystems to be left to nature instead so that endangered species may flourish.
