The Vigilantes of Dodge City described by Robert Wright (Recollections)
In early 1873, Dodge City businessmen gathered together to form a vigilance committee. Too many people had been killed on the streets of Dodge City, and now a gang of Texas desperados were trying to "take the town." The vigilance committee acted by shooting two of the gang leaders and ordering the rest out of town. What started as an attempt to bring law and order to Dodge City, eventually became corrupt. The vigilance committee became the desperados and outlaws they originally had sought to get rid of. With the murder of William Taylor, the vigilance committee was no more. Learn from Robert Wright about the vigilantes of Dodge City, and learn why Dodge City has the reputation of a wild west town.
